Spin Analytical AUC Product Line

Cell AssembliesCell assemblies are composed of a centerpiece, framed by windows in their holders. All goes into a housing which is locked with a screw ring. The centerpiece's filling holes, accessible through cutouts in the housing, are sealed with screws. There are two major divisions of cell assemblies: those with metric and with imperial threaded screws. This does not only mean that metric housings require metric screws and imperial housings require imperial screws. There are also minor differences for housings and window holders, so these should match. It has historical reasons that two design lines were developed independently. Nevertheless, centerpieces are exchangeable between the two lines. For backward compatibility, both lines are continuously supported. Furthermore, the user can select between epon, titanium, and aluminium centerpieces. Charcoal filled epoxy resin (“Epon”) centerpieces have the advantage of requiring no centerpiece gaskets,
as they can seal directly to the windows. Their drawback was the limited speed of 42 krpm which still
applies for Epon centerpieces of other makes. Spin Analytical™ Epon centerpieces are rated for 50 krpm
and even for 60 krpm (with a slightly different sector layout). The original speed limitation was overcome
by aluminium centerpieces, which, however, are sensitive to acids and bases. The sensitivity of Epon, on
the other hand, towards organic solvents suggested titanium as an optimal material for nearly any solvent.
Thus, the Spin Analytical product line does not contain aluminium, but a large variety of titanium and
epoxy centerpieces. Also, there is a variety of centerpiece thicknesses, allowing to vary the optical pathlength for measurement, and a special design for fluorescence detection. Though spacers can be used to mount short centerpieces into standard housings, it is recommended to use matching housings; they are also available for various pathlengths. Omitting spacers reduces the risk of cell leakage, and the optical focal plane is the same for all centerpieces. Find these cell components as well as calibration cells in these sections: |
